A Different Kind of Pickleball

By Lynn Champagne, Cedarbrae Pickleball Correspondent
Well folks, it has been a while since we were able to play our beloved pickleball.
We all miss it terribly! The great exercise and especially the wonderful friends.
Someone once said; “It’s like having a coffee klatch that also plays pickleball.”
Some of us have resorted to building our own pickleball courts or pickleball training spots. To say we are addicted is an understatement! In the unfinished portion of our basement, I leaned two folding tables against the wall giving us some indoor practice space. It wasn’t much, but it gave us a bit of space to practice our pickleball skills.
You can use any wall, in a basement, in a garage or even a spare bedroom room. Grab your paddle, ball, and some tape to make yourself a temporary practice space. The internet is full of great videos and some really neat drills to try.
Of course, if you have the time you could also convert an unused space in your home into a pickleball practice court. It may not be a full court size, but an indoor practice space is a great way to keep your skills up for when we can all return to playing our beloved game.
The important thing to remember is you can work to improve your game, even if you don’t have a court or practice partner. You can work on your mind, your footwork, and your conditioning.
Yes, you CAN practice pickleball alone!
Until we can finally play again at Cedarbrae Community Centre, stay safe, stay well…and Pickleball on!
