A NEW SPACE FOR EVERYONE TO ENJOY

WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY SPACES PROJECT?

The Cedarbrae Community Spaces project is supported by the Government of Canada’s Healthy Communities Initiative which provided over $40,000.00 in funding.

The Cedarbrae Community Spaces project was developed over several years to repurpose the community garden space on the Cedarbrae Community Centre grounds into a space for everyone to enjoy.

Over 15 years the Cedarbrae community gardens provided garden plot renters with wonderful opportunities to grow their own vegetables.

But after so many years, the forty-five garden beds that occupied the space on the north of the Cedarbrae community centre were in a very poor condition and posed a safety hazard to the community.

The Cedarbrae Community Spaces project reimagined the space in a way that would turn it into a place where everyone could enjoy the community centre grounds not just those who rented a garden plot.

Join us as we bring our community a new space for all to enjoy!

PHASE ONE – COMPLETE

In phase one the old Cedarbrae community gardens will be removed to make way for the future…

The Old Gardens Are Gone

PHASE TWO – IN PROGRESS

In phase two a picnic area surrounded by perennial gardens will be built to provide the community with a place to enjoy the outdoors for summer picnics or winter ice skating adventures.

To reduce water consumption and save this precious resource the number of rentable garden beds has been reduced and the community centre garden beds will feature drought resistant plants to feed pollinators.

Want to get involved?  Why not donate some perennials when you separate your plants in the fall to our community garden beds.  Claim a spot here and bring over your contribution to plant anytime before October 30th.

Phase Two Of Our Project Has Been Supported By

PHASE THREE – COMPLETED BEFORE PHASE ONE AND TWO

In phase three we planned to purchase several tents to create an outdoor market space on our the ice rink pad during the non winter months.

Funds from the markets will go to support free education opportunities at Cedarbrae Community Centre.

Local businesses, crafters and other entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to get involved with these outdoor markets.

Phase three was moved to the beginning of the project to make it possible for us to hold the Cedarbrae Carnival and Summer Night Market in June of 2023.

Watch for more market opportunities in the future.
